Livorno admit Premiership club chasing keeper but refuses to confirm it is Liverpool
Livorno President Aldo Spinelli has confirmed that goalkeeper Marco Amelia is being tracked by a Premiership outfit, thought to be Liverpool.
Milan are also reportedly interested as their current No 1 Nelson Dida will be out of action for at least two months after injuring his knee during the Champions League tie with AEK Athens.
“There is a chance that Amelia could leave in January,” said Spinelli as he entered the Lega Calcio offices on Friday.
“In any case, he will move only if we are offered a counterpart, otherwise we cannot let him go. The player has also received an interesting offer from a Premiership club to join them in June, but I will not confirm if it’s Liverpool. It may be an even more important outfit. Milan? I don’t think they have a goalkeeper to offer us,” stated the club official, although the Rossoneri might buy Stefano Sorrentino from AEK Athens and then use him in a swap deal.
The President is also adamant that he has no problem with Coach Daniele Arrigoni, despite the latterÂ’s complaints about the constant criticism directed his way.
“I don’t always complain, I only try to motivate my squad because I am sure they can do even better than what I have seen so far. We should have three points more than we do, but I still believe we are strong in all departments,” concluded Spinelli, whose team will visit Reggina on Sunday.

Livorno keeper says Liverpool want him
Livorno goalkeeper Marco Amelia has admitted that Liverpool want him – even if he is unsure of where his future lies.
The shot-stopper has been linked with numerous clubs and heÂ’s this evening confirmed that the Anfield outfit want him in the Premiership.
“It is true that an English club would like me and I know it is Liverpool, they are the most interested party,” he told Sky Italia.
However, the World Cup winner is being strongly associated with a move to Milan after Nelson Dida picked up a knee injury in midweek.
“I don’t know anything about Milan,” added the youngster.
“I’m honoured to have been paired with such a club, but I don’t know what will happen in January. All I know is that they would need to dig deep to sign me and I don’t think they would spend so much to keep me on the bench. If they do sign me then it would mean that Dida would leave at the end of the season [when his contract expires]. That would be the only logical reason why I would transfer to Milan.”
Having clubs such as Liverpool and Milan is obviously pleasing for the No 1, but he has another destination on his mind.
“If it was up to me then I would go back home to Rome and Roma,” he noted.
“However, those doors are closed as they have Doni who is a great custodian. I will have market options available to me and I will look to make the best out of them.”
