MIDDLESBROUGH will run out for this Saturday teatime fixture, in the hope of history repeating itself. Manchester United extended their Premiership lead at the top of the table to six points thanks to a Darren Fletcher header at Middlesbrough.
United took the lead when Louis Saha converted the penalty won by Cristiano Ronaldo, who was fouled by Boro keeper Mark Schwarzer.
The home side hit back after the break when substitute James Morrison's low volley found the botton left corner.
United clinched the win when Fletcher nodded in a Ryan Giggs cross.
With Chelsea not playing this weekend, leaders United now find themselves six points clear of the champions. -

Cristiano Ronaldo once again found himself in the spotlight as he won a controversial penalty in Manchester United's 2-1 win over Middlesbrough - a result that moves the Premiership leaders six points clear. The Portugal winger went down as he rounded goalkeeper Mark Schwarzer on 19 minutes, although there appeared to be little contact. Louis Saha converted the resulting penalty. United were rocked by James Morrison's volleyed leveller. But Darren Fletcher regained the lead almost immediately as he headed home Ryan Giggs' centre.
Boro boss Gareth Southgate accused the Portuguese winger of diving to win Manchester United a penalty as they moved six points clear at the top.
Southgate was furious that Ronaldo failed to stay on his feet. He said: "There was no contact whatsoever. The keeper has tried his best to get out of the way and the player goes down ... again.
"You canÂ’t blame the referee. WeÂ’ve seen it so many times. ItÂ’s clearly not a penalty. "You hope some players start performing in a way that they should, that they do stay on their feet and not start going down for a penalty.
"The frustration is that weÂ’ve gone behind to a goal that has put us on the back foot and should never have been. It cost us dearly."
United boss Alex Ferguson was adamant it was a spotkick. He said: "I thought it was a clear pen to be honest with you. "HeÂ’s trying to evade it but would he have scored? I think he would have."
Middlesbrough manager Gareth Southgate:
"Ronaldo made no contact with our keeper.
"Schwarzer tried his best to get out of the way. We've seen it so many times. It's clearly not a penalty."
Manchester United boss Sir Alex Ferguson:
"I think that our away form has been fantastic.
"That's got to be needed because it's such a tight top of the league with ourselves and Chelsea.
"The lads showed great resolution, even when Middlesbrough equalised we were straight back at them and they wanted to win it. That's important." -
Darren Fletcher is improving this season. Still remember last season I wanted a lot for him to be out of Man Utd.
