Buffon to hold talks over his future in February
Juventus and Gigi Buffon will meet in February to start talks over the goalkeeperÂ’s future with the Italian giants.
Where the No 1 will be playing next season has been a hot topic of debate, but agent Silvano Martina has looked to cool speculation.
“I spoke to Gigi today where he underlined his desire to stay in Turin, yet at the same time he wants to win and fight for major honours,” noted the representative.
“Buffon has high moral qualities and he demonstrated great attachment to the club by sacrificing himself in Serie B. But it is clear that if Juventus don’t reach certain targets, seeing as there is a good relationship between himself and the club, that he may ask to leave. If that happened there wouldn’t be that many sides in Italy who could sign him. We have a meeting scheduled with the club in February.”
The Turin giants want the ‘keeper to remain and took the amazing step of thanking the World Cup winner for his efforts by taking out an advert in the national sports papers.
“It was a surprise for him,” noted club President Giovanni Cobolli Gigli. “To demonstrate our friendship and gratitude. He is a great champion and a great man for his decision to remain in a moment of difficulty. It is logical therefore that myself and the club speak to him soon about the future.”
Turning to the January transfer market, Cobolli Gigli insisted that the Old Lady would not be shopping after Christmas.
“There will be no new arrivals and nobody will leave,” he added. “There will be no buys or sales. We will return to Serie A with our present squad. We should also remember that we have a lot of good youngsters in the set-up. Let us hope that they give us great satisfaction.” -
I'd love to see him at United.

Wah.. If Chelsea buys him, they'll have Cech, Cuducini, Hilario, Hedman and him, which seems impossible BUT! I do agree that Arsenal needs a new keepr. Cos all of their keepers are old, Lehmann's 37, Almunia's 29 and Poom's 34. But Buffon isn't young too! I'd reckon Wenger to go youth - Igor Akinfeev from CSKA Moskow.
Although Reina's fast becoming the next Barthez, but he's still a top keeper. Carson, on loan at Charlton, is an exceptionally talented young keeper. Dudek is getitng old and putting him on the bench is just wasting money and talent.
United has alot of keepers but in my opinion, signing Kuzczak is a huge mistake. He reminds me of Roy Carroll. Although he's a good keeper but i doubt he'll ever make it big. Howard and Foster, on loan at Everton and Watford respectively, are doing reasonably well too.
I think Buffon should stay in Italy, preferably joining either A.C Milan or Inter Milan cos their keepers, Dida and Toldo, are old enough to retier anytime soon.
