Bolton midfielder Ivan Campo admits he would be keen to return to Spain amid reports Athletic Bilbao are looking to sign him.
Athletic are believed to be considering a move for the former Real Madrid player after losing midfielder Pablo Orbaiz to a season-ending knee injury at the weekend.
Campo insists he has heard nothing from Athletic, but revealed he would be interested in a move back to the Basque region where he grew up.
The 32-year-old was born in San Sebastian to the north-east of Bilbao, and played for Basque side Alaves as well as Real Mallorca, Valencia, Real Valladolid and Real Madrid before moving to England in 2002.
'I would love to return home, since Bilbao is very close to home,' the former Spain international said in an interview with Punto Radio.
'I know the atmosphere there as I have played at the San Mames with the Basque XI and to be honest I loved it.'
However, he did admit that Athletic's supposed interest was news to him.
'I am in London and I don't know anything about it,' he said.
Any potential move back to Spain in the January transfer window will need the go-ahead of Bolton boss Sam Allardyce though, as Campo is under contract until 2008.
'I still have this season left and then another at Bolton,' said Campo.
