OWEN HARGREAVES believes he can be the final piece in the jigsaw as Manchester United try to wrestle the Premiership title from Chelsea.
The England midfielder is desperate for a move to Old Trafford in the January transfer window — and that could give Alex Ferguson’s league leaders a massive boost.
Bayern Munich star Hargreaves, 25, almost joined United in the summer as boss Fergie made a £16million move for the player. But Bayern insisted they would need double that amount.
Speaking on Five’s John Barnes’ Football Night, Hargreaves said: “I was flattered by United’s interest in the summer and I made my intentions clear as to what I would have liked to have happened.
“They thought I would add a piece to their puzzle and, with my local connections, I think I could have added something to them.”
The midfield anchorman is currently on the comeback trail after breaking a leg but Fergie is believed to be preparing another bid to test BayernÂ’s resolve once again.
Hargreaves was heavily criticised in Germany for admitting he wanted to leave Munich for Manchester — but he insists he has no regrets. He said: “To have the opportunity to play for a club like Man United would be a dream come true. “I think United is one of the biggest and best clubs in the world.
It’s an honour that United are interested in me, especially when you look at the squad of players they already have there.” In my opinion, the Premier League is the strongest league at the moment.
