CURBS: I WANT HAMMERS JOB
ALAN Curbishley has admitted he wants to become West Ham's new boss after revealing he has been approached by the club to become Alan Pardew's replacement.
The former Charlton boss, who has been out of work since leaving the Addicks in the summer, is believed to be the first choice of new Hammers owner Eggert Magnusson.
"West Ham want to talk to me and I would love to know what they want to say, of course I'm interested," Curbishley said last night."I suspect we will get together over the next day or so when the dust has settled.
Curbishley is the odds-on favourite to take over at West Ham - and it is understand that negotiations will start in earnest today.
The 49-year-old could be installed by the end of the week providing he gets assurances about finances - plus the guarantee of being in sole charge of footballing matters.
Former England chief Sven Goran Eriksson is not interested in the vacancy, according to his assistant Tord Grip.
In another sudden twist, Pardew could be set for an instant return to football. Charlton are considering a dramatic move for him as Les Reed has struggled to improve the Addicks' results. Pardew, who signed a contract 14 months ago worth £5m over five years, is already a free agent after walking away yesterday with a £1.5m golden handshake and no restrictions on taking another Premiership job immediately.
Pardew said: "I am proud of my achievements at West Ham United. When I took the helm they were in the Championship and struggling for direction.
