Villa today launched a search for temporary goalkeeping cover after Stuart Taylor underwent knee surgery, ruling him out of the festive campaign.
The former England Under-21 keeper sustained the injury in the closing stages of Monday's 2-2 draw at Sheffield United.
Villa No1 Thomas Sorensen is still sidelined with a knee injury, meaning Martin O'Neill does not currently have a fit keeper with Premiership experience.
As a consequence, the Premier League have given O'Neill permission to recruit a keeper on loan.

MARTIN OÂ’NEILL hopes Gabor Kiraly can solve Aston VillaÂ’s keeper crisis.
The Hungarian international, 30, has the green light from Crystal Palace to join Villa on loan, initially for a month.
The Premier League has allowed boss OÂ’Neill special dispensation to sign a replacement keeper for tomorrowÂ’s home game with Bolton after Stuart Taylor was sidelined by knee surgery.
And first-choice Thomas Sorensen is also out with knee trouble.
Taylor said: “I can’t believe this has happened just when I was getting my first run in the team.
“This is a real kick in the teeth. All I can do is focus on getting back.”
Kiraly joined the Eagles from Hertha Berlin two years ago and boasts 65 caps for Hungary. -

I guess that solve the problem for OÂ’NEILL for now... unless the new keeper also gets injured when he starts playing for them...
