Arsene Wenger has indicated he expects big things from Theo Walcott in 2007, with the Arsenal boss of the opinion that his young charge is ready to reclaim his place in the England team.
Walcott's inclusion in Sven Goran Eriksson's World Cup squad - despite having never played for The Gunners - sent shockwaves through English football, but the 17-year-old has become a much more prominent figure for Arsenal this season whilst being relegated to the England Under 21 setup.
Despite still searching for his first goal in Red and White, the 17-year-old sensation has three assists to his name and has proved to be a useful impact player for his French boss.
Wenger is now sure that the next 12 months could be a memorable year for the former Southampton prodigy, who is set to enjoy more playing time in the Premiership.
Indeed, the Gunners boss believes it is only a matter of time before Steve McClaren calls on England's youngest-ever player to resume his international career.
"I feel 2007 is a big year for Theo," said Wenger. "He has made big steps forward.
"Theo will play more and more for us now.
"What I like about him is in every game he is decisive, he creates chances.
"Theo has played a few games and done well, but even more in training he looks a different player to what he was six months ago. His power and personality in the game has improved. His determination to pass people.
"Before it was only with pace, but now he forces the decision and shrugs people off.
"I must say he will be a candidate for England now.
"He is ready to handle that now. He has the personality and he is intelligent."
