ROBIN VAN PERSIE has told Manchester United and Chelsea: “Arsenal are the best team in England.”
The Dutch striker scored twice for the Gunners in a sensational 6-2 home win over Blackburn on Saturday. Arsene WengerÂ’s men trail Premiership leaders United by 14 points and are 12 behind second-placed Chelsea. But Van Persie insists the football played by those two sides does not compare to ArsenalÂ’s free-flowing style.
Van Persie said: “There is no better side, football-wise, than Arsenal in England — definitely, 100 per cent. “It is frustrating for us but I see it in a positive way. We are proving every week we are the best. I watch a lot of football and sometimes I see games on TV and I think ‘I could never play in that team’.
“When I see those games I am just happy I am in a team that plays fantastic football. “We have the likes of Rosicky, Hleb and Fabregas. “They are top, top players who see almost everything that is around them and that is very, very special.”
Arsenal have scored 24 goals at home — that is more than any other Premiership club this season despite supposedly having problems adapting to new surroundings at the Emirates Stadium.
The red-hot Gunners netted three goals in the last six minutes to rout Rovers. And Blackburn were angered by Arsenal taking the mickey out of them as they headed down the tunnel at full-time.
That followed Cesc Fabregas’ nutmegging of Robbie Savage before Mathieu Flamini hit the sixth goal. Blackburn boss Mark Hughes said: “I was in the dressing room so I’m not sure about what happened. “But they had just won 6-2 so I suppose they can indulge themselves.
“Our players probably took exception to it because they know that five minutes from the end of that game, they were very much in it.” Gunners boss Wenger takes his side to Aidy Boothroyd’s struggling Watford today.
Wenger said: “I admire them because they don’t seem to be affected by the fact they don’t win. “You need to be strong to do that.“Aidy has a belief they will get out of trouble and he does that in a convincing way.”
