EXCLUSIVE Chelsea warned: You must break bank again
CHELSEA want England star Micah Richards in the transfer window - but Manchester City are looking for a stunning £20million for their teenage terror.
Jose Mourinho has made Richards his top target for the New Year and wants owner Roman Abramovich to sign him because he admits to being short of defenders and knows the City man can play at right-back or centre-half.
Richards can also swap a survival struggle at City for a shot at Champions League glory.
City do not need to sell as Richards is under contract and they still have most of the Shaun Wright-Phillips £21m windfall from Chelsea just 16 months ago.
So chairman John Wardle will be looking for the same sort of fee for a player whose potential is bigger than Wright-Phillips - and is arguably worth even more.
Chelsea made their first enquiry last summer when they tried to tempt City with a low price and the chance of taking Wright-Phillips back in a cutprice deal a year after they bought him.
However City held firm - and could now reap the benefits with the bidding likely to go wild. The fee will rule out other admirers like Liverpool, Spurs, Arsenal and West Ham.
City will have to hold out for the biggest price possible as Oldham are due a healthy 20 per cent of the deal - and that could be a massive windfall of up to £4m. Wardle is in a strong bargaining position and could make a huge profit for the club.

u think he'll play alongside terry if terry is back?Originally posted by used:but from micah point of view, playing alongside terry is a rare oppourtunity.
by staying at city he may get to play every wkend but chances of him playing constantly at international is limited. cos he does not have the quality to match world class opposition which can be achived when u play in the ucl
y not? i think he is better than carvellhoOriginally posted by lpx88:u think he'll play alongside terry if terry is back?![]()
its pretty obvious signing him is a cover for terry, i doubt jose will field him once terry is back.Originally posted by used:but from micah point of view, playing alongside terry is a rare oppourtunity.

no risk no gain, its all about business.Originally posted by zocoss:It would be silly if City don't sell him. I guess they had the experience with swp and feel should they missed this chance, they probably won't get so much again. Maybe they do realise that had they not sold SWP for $21m... Today, they probably would only get half of what they got for him... So a good deal for a club like City, they can use the much needed money to strengthen the overall team.

Manchester City balk at Distin's demand for £50,000 a week
Sylvain Distin has rejected a final contract offer from Manchester City because the club are refusing to meet his £50,000-a-week salary demand. City have offered to make him their highest-paid player, with a weekly wage of £40,000, but the 29-year-old defender believes he is worth more and unless he backs down he is almost certain to leave.
Distin's present deal expires at the end of the season and, anxious not to lose a player of his calibre on a free transfer, City will reluctantly sell him if they receive an acceptable offer in the January transfer window. The club anticipate there will be several prospective buyers, but Distin's requirements may complicate matters. Middlesbrough had agreed an undisclosed fee with City last summer, only to balk at the defender's insistence that they pay him £2.6m a year.
Stuart Pearce, the City manager, has been given about £1.5m to spend in January and his transfer fund will be increased if Distin leaves. City's priority is to bring in at least one wide player, although they have failed in their attempts to persuade Chelsea to allow Shaun Wright-Phillips to return to his former club on loan. Pearce was informed that the player was available but for a fee that was out of City's price range. Despite speculation that Chelsea have identified Micah Richards for a big-money transfer, his name was not brought up during the talks. Pearce has subsequently renewed his interest in Olivier Thomert of Lens, a 26-year-old who can play on either wing and who came close to moving to City last summer.
Pearce, who will be dismayed to learn that one bookmaker has installed him as 4-1 favourite to be the next Premiership manager to be sacked.
buying a player for 18m for cover then keep him on the bench? they already did that with swp and i don think they will make the same mistake twice.Originally posted by alwaysdisturbed:its pretty obvious signing him is a cover for terry, i doubt jose will field him once terry is back.
not to even mention if he gets a chance to feature in champs league?
if that really happens, isn't chances of him playing at international level even slimmer?
