LIVERPOOL will sell striker Peter Crouch to Newcastle for £12million —- but insist they need a replacement first.
Toon boss Glenn Roeder wants the England star to boost his injury-hit strike force. Kop chiefs now admit they are ready to let their 6ft 7in hitman go — but have warned they first need to land long-term target David Villa from Spaniards Valencia for £22m.
And if that bid fails, Kop boss Rafa Benitez will need to look elsewhere for a replacement. Crouch, 25, only signed from Southampton in a £7m deal 18 months ago but it is understood he would be prepared to sign for Newcastle.
West Ham’s Argentine misfit Javier Mascherano hopes to bend FIFA rules to join Liverpool next month. Juventus also want the midfielder, who has been frozen out at Upton Park since October. But Mascherano, 22, has already played for Hammers and Brazilian outfit Corinthians this season — and rules say he cannot join a third club.
MascheranoÂ’s advisors believe any potential buyer can claim the rule is a restraint of trade, citing the fact that West Ham have been taken over since he signed in August. -

what is wrong with the newcastle management?
why do they keep signing strikers? how many strikers do they want? you dont sign strikers just because they are injured.
it is not like they are at the top of the table.
what they need are good defenders.

P. Crouch doesnt worth 12m...n pool thinking of selling a player siting on the bench now for a good profit must be dreaming..n if newcastle buy at tat price, its an idiot n hopeful a massive flop n run into regelation trouble..
D. Villa wont go off at 22m too, so pool also can stop dreaming at getting tat price.. -

Roeder rejects Crouch speculation
Newcastle boss Glenn Roeder has played down reports linking the club with a move for Liverpool's Peter Crouch. The 25-year-old England striker was rumoured to be the subject of a £12m bid from Newcastle, but Roeder says there is nothing in the speculation.
"It is pure speculation and I would be surprised if he ended up becoming a Newcastle player," said Roeder. "Someone knows more than I do. As far as I am concerned, there has not been a deal even spoken about."
He added: "I really hate managers talking about other managers' players. "Peter Crouch is a Liverpool player and I do not think Rafael Benitez would appreciate me talking about Peter Crouch when he is not a Newcastle player.
"I said a month ago when I was asked, he is very talented and certainly deserves his place in the England team, in my opinion. "But anything outside that would be unfair to Liverpool and the manager there."
Roeder is in the market for a striker with Michael Owen and Shola Ameobi injured and loan signing Giuseppe Rossi on his way back to Manchester United after Saturday's trip to Everton. -
crouch is definitely not worth 7 million, let alone 12.

why would someone spend 12m on a player who cant guarentee 20 goals a season and took almost 20 games to score his first goal
