Nugent not for sale, warn Preston
'David Nugent has been tremendous for us, and I am sure he will play in the Premier League'
Preston's England Under-21 striker David Nugent may have caught the eye of numerous Premiership clubs but chairman Derek Shaw today insisted that their top scorer "is not for sale" in the January transfer window.
With Preston sitting third in the Championship, three points adrift of an automatic promotion spot, Shaw is determined to hang on to his prize asset, despite rumoured interest from Everton, Aston Villa and Sheffield United, among others.
"We have 19 Cup finals left, and David Nugent is not for sale. We want to get to the Premier League," said Shaw. "David Nugent has been tremendous for us, and I am sure he will play in the Premier League. But we want that to be with Preston North End and we do not want to sell him. He will be a big player for us in these 19 Cup finals, and we will assess the situation again after that."
