REAL MADRID have told Ronaldo he is free to leave the club. The 30-year-old wants to follow team-mate David Beckham out of the Bernabeu in the summer after discovering he is surplus to requirements. Ronaldo, a reported target for AC Milan, is under contract until June 2008 but the La Liga giants will listen to offers for the Brazilian striker.
Real president Ramon Calderon said: "It would surely be better for the club and for him if he were transferred. "The situation is different to that of Beckham as Ronaldo still has another year on his contract after this one. "But he is going to be inactive because the coach has made it clear he doesn't count on him. "If we do not get any offers, he will stay with us."
Madrid boss Fabio Capello is keen to rebuild his side and plans to end Real's reliance on their aging Galacticos stars. Axing the club's big earners holds no fear for him and he is unwilling to play anyone who is not fully committed.
