Frank Lampard has hit back at Joey Barton after comments about England players' performances at the World Cup.
Manchester City midfielder Barton was scathing about players who had brought out autobiographies following the tournament in Germany.
Barton was also critical of the midfield partnership of Lampard and Steven Gerrard, claiming that they needed a ball each in order to succeed together.
Lampard concedes he was disappointed by his tournament performances, but believes Barton's comments were ill-advised.
"I don't think Joey should talk about me and Steven. You shouldn't talk about other players too much," said Lampard.
"Unfortunately, I had six games where I didn't hit the back of the net and they were at the World Cup. It can happen.
"I didn't let my country down. It's as simple as that."
