Spurs snap up Portugal star Rocha

Tottenham have agreed a deal with Benfica to sign Portuguese international defender Ricardo Rocha.
The 28-year-old has signed for an undisclosed fee thought to be around £3.3m and the deal could include Spurs playing two friendlies with Benfica. "Ricardo is an accomplished defender who gives us further options and brings considerable experience," said Spurs sporting director Damien Comolli.
Rocha, who has six caps for Portugal, may play against Arsenal on Wednesday. Spurs meet their north London rivals in the first leg of their Carling Cup semi-final at White Hart Lane.
Comolli added: "He has played at the highest level in European competition and is also a current Portuguese international. "Ricardo has shown a great desire to come to White Hart Lane and will no doubt prove to be a valuable addition to the squad at this important time."
How come mourinho didn't think of him? He is also Portuguese... This is a good defender and he is really cheap for his standard. -

Roeder warns Spurs off Duff
Newcastle boss Glenn Roeder has warned Tottenham that any approach for Damien Duff will fall on deaf ears.
Republic of Ireland international Duff is closing on a return to fitness and reports are suggesting Spurs chief Martin Jol may test Newcastle's resolve to keep the winger this month.
Duff only arrived at Newcastle from Chelsea in the summer and although he has not made the expected impact on account a couple of injuries, Roeder has no plans to let him move on.
"We have read the reports of Spurs wanting Damien Duff over the weekend, but we have heard nothing from them," Roeder told the Evening Chronicle.
"In any case, they must know they are wasting their time. Why would we sign Damien Duff in the close season and then sell him on before that season is over?
"We are trying to build a good squad here at Newcastle United and Duff is very much part of our plans." -

duff is becoming owen's best friend on the injury table...and spurs needed a def after selling davenport and i think its a good buy
