Real Madrid target Kaka says he wants to stay at AC Milan for the long haul. When Ramon Calderon became president at the Bernabeu last summer, signing the brilliant Brazilian for Los Galacticos was one of his main electoral ploys. The deal never came off, but Ronaldo's imminent move to the San Siro reawakened talk that Kaka could one day end up in the Spanish capital. But the player himself says he's excited by the prospect of linking up with his fellow Brazilian, and wants to replace the likes of Paolo Maldini as a cornerstone of Milan's future.
He told the Rossoneri's official website: "I said hello to Ronaldo after the game on Thursday night and he seemed very content. The fact that he picked Milan over greater financial offers shows he still has a lot to show in football. "I am also pleased to be at Milan and my future does not depend on what happens at Real Madrid. Of course, I think that I might not get on well as has happened with Shevchenko although I believe he can still write his own history at Chelsea."
As well as the anticipated capture of Ronaldo, Milan have also swooped for Lazio defender Massimo Oddo this month. And Kaka says their arrivals give him renewed hope for the future. "I am convinced by the signings made in January and Milan have a project to keep the team up there at the top in years to come and buying players in January is part of that. It's a bit complicated for me to speak about Ronaldo because I am such a big fan.
"It's been said that there are no standard-bearers around today but I hope to become one. Maldini and Costacurta are great examples, hopefully, I will remain here and one day become captain and a standard-bearer for Milan."
