Reyes faces Gunners returnJOSE REYES could be forced to return to Arsenal this summer. The future of the Spanish forward, who is on a season-long loan at Real Madrid, has been cast into doubt. Real have lined up a shock move to sign Javier Saviola from arch-rivals Barcelona. The Argentina ace is available on a Bosman this summer and Madrid are ready to swoop. Saviola, 25, was set for a switch to the Premiership with Arsenal, Tottenham and Newcastle leading the chase. But the lure of Real — despite their rivalry with Barca — could prove too tempting for the forward.
A move to Madrid would leave Reyes's hopes of securing a permanent switch to the Bernabeu in serious doubt. Reyes endured a miserable two seasons at Arsenal after joining from Sevilla for £17million in 2004. The 23-year-old failed to settle in England and openly admitted his desperation to return to Spain's warmer climate.
Another reason he faces the exit is that boss Fabio Capello is set to leave the club at the end of the season. But Reyes today revealed a move back to London is the last thing he wants. He said: "I wouldn't like to return to London. I hope to join a Spanish club if I don't stay here. "It's not that it was unpleasant for me to play for Arsenal — I'm simply used to a different climate. Ask Julio Baptista how he feels there."
Baptista moved to the Emirates as part of the loan deal that took Reyes to Spain. The Brazilian has also struggled to acclimatise in the Premiership and recently launched an outburst about his stay.
