Leeds chief executive Shaun Harvey has revealed the club do not know which player leaked team news to Crystal Palace ahead of last week's Coca-Cola Championship clash. In a furious post-match outburst which overshadowed a crucial 2-1 win for his relegation strugglers, manager Dennis Wise claimed one of his players had betrayed him by providing Palace with his starting line-up.Wise, who insisted the culprit would never play for the club again, said he would not reveal the identity of the player and refused to comment further. But Harvey admitted nobody knew who the player in question was.
"The issue we've got now is, while we know it happened, we do not know which Leeds United player it is," he told BBC Radio Leeds. "That's the big news, we do not know which Leeds United player it is."
Harvey confirmed "the mole" had not revealed himself, leaving fans at a fans' forum to conclude - contrary to Wise's assertions - that the mystery player is likely to play for the club again.
Harvey added: Was the leak of the team malicious or naive, was the information got to Crystal Palace directly or indirectly? "That's the information we have to confirm and once we know the full ramifications of who, how and why the appropriate decisions will be made.
Harvey was full of praise for Palace manager Peter Taylor, who has since told Wise that he had "badly over-reacted". "It is to Peter Taylor's credit that when fronted with the question by Dennis Wise he actually confirmed the answer, because it would have been very easy for him to say no.
"Once we know the full ramifications of who, how and why, those decisions will be made, and those decisions will be made in the best interests of Leeds United Football Club."
