Gerrard: Barca don't scare usSTEVEN GERRARD has sent a warning shot to Barcelona insisting Liverpool are not afraid of the European champions. The Reds take on Barca at the Nou Camp next week in the first leg of their Champions League last 16 showdown. And Kop skipper Gerrard believes his side can beat the star-studded Spanish giants.
He said: "We know what we are capable of and we know the performance we can come up with on the big occasion. "We also know that whatever Barcelona say, they are going to be wary of us.
"We have got to go there with confidence. "We have to have belief in our ability and we must not spend too much time worrying about Barcelona. "If you do that you will give yourself nightmares because they are a great side."
Gerrard also reckons that Kop boss Rafa Benitez's knowledge of Barca will be an advantage for Liverpool. He added: "Rafa knows them and the Spanish league better than anyone and that will make them a little bit wary when we go there. "We would love to go there and win, we are not a team that goes anywhere to play for a draw. But it would not be a bad result for us.
"A lot of our lads have plenty of experience of playing in the Nou Camp, so there is no fear factor. "We have been waiting for this game for ages it seems, and now it is almost here we know that a positive result would set us up nicely when we bring them back to Anfield for the second leg.
"We have had some great games against them in the past and I am sure this will be another one."
