Sunderland moved to the top of the Coca-Cola Championship for the first time this season with a come-from-behind 2-1 win at Southampton on Monday evening. After Marek Saganowski had put the hosts ahead at St Mary's on 67 minutes, man of the match Carlos Edwards soon levelled. However, Sunderland left it late to secure the points, substitiute Grant Leadbitter netted a spectacular winner with just three minutes to play.
Derby had started the day at the top but dropped two points as they were held 1-1 by Coventry at Pride Park. It could have been worse for the Rams after Leon McKenzie struck for the visitors after 73 minutes but parity was restored just six minutes later. Matt Oakley was the scorer for County when he converted after good work from James McEveley and Steve Howard.
Birmingham's promotion bid also suffered a setback as they were beaten 1-0 by strugglers Barnsley. Victory for the Oakwell side lifted them out of the relegation zone - at the expense of Leeds - and Daniel Nardiello is the man they have to thank after he grabbed the game's only goal in the 52nd minute. A stormy affair ended with Blues' Neil Danns and Barnsley's Bobby. Hassell sent off by referee Mike Russell for violent conduct after the final whistle.
Leeds, meanwhile, continue to go through the whole spectrum of emotions, getting sucked back into the bottom three following a dramatic 2-1 loss to Colchester. -

Southampton need to work harder if they want to make it for the playoffs. As for Leeds, if they go down to League I it will be a real shame.

The fans are coming back also, Now they are even filling 40,000 fans in their weekly home matches... Some premiership clubs can't even get that amount every week...
I guess Newcastle won't be too please that they are coming back up... Next season interesting match-up between Sunderland vs Newcastle... Derby match.

DENNIS WISE tore into his defenders after two late goals pushed Leeds back into the Championship drop zone.
When Eddie Lewis fired them in front early in the second half, it seemed Leeds were on course to build on the win on Saturday that had lifted them out of the bottom three for the first time since November.
But slack defending at Layer Road allowed first Chris Iwelumo and then Jamie Cureton to turn the game on its head on a day when results elsewhere went against the Yorkshire side.
"We were looking very comfortable but then conceded two crap goals from set plays," fumed Elland Road boss Wise. "We had a mad 10 minutes when we didn't defend properly and it drives you potty.
"You ask them to do something and they don't do it. It makes me realise why we lose games when they don't do these things. Some of them don't take it on board enough, unfortunately.
You keep telling them about these small details that can be so important but sometimes they just think you're mad and don't do them.
"So this is why we'll get back on the field and do them again. And I'll drive them potty until they get it right." This was Leeds' first visit to Colchester since their shock FA Cup defeat in 1971, when Colchester were in the old Fourth Division.
The victory means Colchester must still be regarded as contenders to gatecrash the play-offs, with Leeds the 14th team to have been beaten at this tiny ground this season. Cureton said: "Yes, there's an outside chance we can make it and it would be a massive bonus if we did, but it's not something we talk about." -

Sunderland land £10m sponsor deal
Sunderland have agreed a four-year sponsorship deal with independent Irish bookmakers Boylesports, which could be worth in excess of £10m. Boylesports will become the offical sponsor, replacing Reg Vardy on Black Cats shirts from the end of the season.
Niall Quinn, the Sunderland chairman, said: "It is fantastic that Boylesports have taken this leap of faith to support us. We are absolutely thrilled to be joining forces to drive the club forward in the next four years."
John Boyle, Boylesports founder, added: "This is a landmark day for Boylesports and we are delighted to be pledging ourselves as proud sponsors to Sunderland Association Football Club for the next four seasons. QUINN'S BIG PLANS FOR CATS
NIALL QUINN'S Sunderland resurrection will not stop at being promoted - he will only be happy when measuring up the stadium to extend it beyond 50,000 seats.
The chairman landed a major sponsorship deal with Irish bookmaker John Boyle yesterday which could be worth £10million if they get to the higher reaches of the Premiership within four years. It was the latest step in a restructuring that will release up to £25m to strengthen the squad next season should the league leaders go up.
Quinn is aiming to reignite the Wearside support base that saw 36,000 season ticket-holders. His tour to get fans believing again has so far ensured well over 22,000 season-ticket holders for next term, with 30,000 a possibility by August.
"This club is starting to feel big again," said Quinn. "I'd be happy with 49,000 filling the stadium. I know there's a chance. "I'm not going to knock it when 40,000 people come, it's incredible. But I'll keep pushing until I'm measuring up to extend the place." -

Grant Leadbitter's strike 14 minutes from time ensured Sunderland maintained their march towards the Premiership. Dean Whitehead put Roy Keane's Black Cats ahead after seven minutes, taking advantage of David Connolly's pass to beat Lee Camp from 14 yards.
QPR drew level in the 23rd minute, Martin Rowlands scoring from the spot after Sunderland keeper Darren Ward fouled Dexter Blackstock. But Leadbitter fired home from 25 to seal a crucial victory for Sunderland.

Glad to see Sunderland doing well again , scrapping results without dropping points is what a champion is all about . The next game will be against Colechester and they are not easy to play against at their home turf especially only losing 3 times at home so far. If Sunderland can clinched that result , Birmingham losing against Leicester (midweek) and Wolves (sunday), they will be promoted . Derby's defeat against Ipswich has opened up the chance for Birmingham to regain the automatic spot (2nd) if they beat Leicester on wednesday morning.
Hopefully Birmingham will lose the upcoming games and settle for play offs . My prediction, Sunderland and Derby for the automatic promotion .
Playoffs : WBA, Preston, Wolves and Birmingham.
Among these 4 teams, would like to see Preston in the EPL but I predict WBA will clinched the final spot.
As for the bottom side, no easy games for any of the bottom teams. Luton is as good as relegated , can't see them escaping (similar situation like Watford). The likes of Leicester, Hull City, Barnsley, Leeds , Southend and probably QPR are fighting to take the last two spots. It's one of the tightest relegation battles we have seen for years. Who do I think will go down along with Luton ? Southend has lost their crucial games and I say they will go down along with Leeds. Most of you guys know what Leeds is all about , especially few years ago , they were playing against Lazio at Elland Road, now they have to settle for the likes of Colchester, Luton town this season , their downfall is very similar to Man City who dropped to 2nd division before climbing back to the EPL.

CCC has been rather exciting this season. The leadership changed hands quite a few times. Sunderland's slow and steady rise from mid-table to the summit certainly reflects well on KEano. -
BLUES BACK IN TOP TWO
Birmingham 2 - 1 Leicester
Birmingham returned to the automatic promotion places in the Coca-Cola Championship and heaped more pressure on relegation-threatened Leicester with a 2-1 win at the Walkers Stadium. Radhi Jaidi's third goal in five games and Sebastian Larsson's eighth goal of the season in the first half ensured the Blues leapfrogged Derby into second place and moved to within two points of leaders Sunderland.
Shaun Newton pulled a goal back for the Foxes with a well-executed free-kick seven minutes from time, but that proved to be too little too late and left the east midlands strugglers without a win in 10 matches and just two points above the drop zone. Andy Gray's first goal since November helped Burnley to a fourth win in five matches, 3-0 against injury-hit Norwich.
Ade Akinbiyi's header gave the hosts a half-time lead before Gray, who endured a two-month spell on the sidelines after picking up a foot problem in the 2-1 win over Leeds in November, and Wade Elliott added the gloss with two goals in the final minutes -
