Helsingborgs have not been asked to extend Henrik Larsson's loan deal with Manchester United, the Swedish club have confirmed.
Larsson is due to return to his parent club next week and Helsingborgs coach Stuart Baxter insists there is no chance of him prolonging his stay in England.
Speculation suggested towards the start of Larsson's three-month spell at Old Trafford that United were eager to keep him for longer.
However, Baxter maintains there have no been no talks with United, either in the past or over the weekend - following Wayne Rooney's injury scare against Liverpool.
United are waiting for Rooney to have a scan on the knee he wounded at Anfield and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is set to be ruled out for the next month, meaning there could be a shortage of options for Sir Alex Ferguson when Larsson departs.
Baxter told Radio Manchester: "There has not been a first approach from United (to extend the deal) let alone a new one.
"Everyone is aware of the situation, and Henrik is on record saying the original deal will hold.
"It was done in good faith allowing Henrik to stay fit through the winter and allowing United to have an extra player so they could give others a rest.
"As a professional, I understand in a perfect world it would be nice for Henrik to stay.
"But that would not go down well with our club and it is not in Henrik's plans either."
i think larsson did extremely well in his short stint there...
it almost felt like he was part of the team immediatly upon arrival
a pity he has to go back when solsakjaer just got injured again...
-2 strikers. Ronaldo as the only main on-form striker.
Rooney is an over rated star. Immediately after signing an extension to his contract, his form took a nose dive. Coincidence? Now he's injure too.
Fergie shld just sign Larsson.
larsson already said he want to retire at his home country and has already a contract with Helsingborg
