Real Madrid midfielder David Beckham should find out on Monday the extent of the knee injury that forced him off in the 1-1 draw with Getafe on Sunday.
Beckham, 31, has undergone a series of tests at the club's training ground.
It is feared he has damaged the internal lateral ligament in his knee and is out of Real's Champions League tie against Bayern Munich on Wednesday.
Beckham - tipped for an England recall - could also be a doubt for the Euro 2008 qualifier in Israel on 24 March.
England coach Steve McClaren has recently admitted that Beckham's fine form for Real Madrid has caused him "a problem", especially as England have struggled in their last few games.
Beckham has not played for England since the 2006 World Cup and he was also left out of the Real side in January after agreeing to join LA Galaxy this summer but worked his way back into coach Fabio Capello's plans.
However, the England squad to play Israel and then Andorra four days later is announced on Friday 16 March, giving Beckham little time to get back to full fitness.
He is also scheduled to play for a European All-Star XI against Manchester United at Old Trafford on 13 March - to mark the 50th anniversary of the founding of the European Common Market as well as United's 50 years of European competition.
Beckham hurt his right knee after miscueing a cross and running into advertising hoardings behind the goal.
