Stuart Pearce will be sacked as manager of Manchester City and could even be out of a job by the end of the week, according to The Sun. City's board have reportedly lost patience with Pearce, with the meek 2-0 FA Cup quarter-final defeat at Blackburn on Sunday the final straw. The former England defender remained defiant after the game, during which one City fan raced onto the pitch in an attempt to confront Pearce. But it appears chairman John Wardle has decided a change of manager is needed - and has already placed Bolton boss Sam Allardyce and Wigan counterpart Paul Jewell at the top of his wanted list. And if the Blues are on the receiving end of a hefty defeat in their home clash with Chelsea on Wednesday night, the axe could fall on Pearce within the next 48 hours.
The 44-year-old has been in charge at Eastlands for two years but going public on his desire to coach England Under-21s while the board were still deciding whether to grant him permission apparently annoyed Wardle. And with City having slipped into the bottom four in the Premiership having lost 22 of their last 37, the pressure looks to have told on Pearce.
