FRANK LAMPARD was attacked by a drunken Tottenham fan as Chelsea celebrated reaching the FA Cup semi-finals last night. The England star had to duck a punch thrown at him by a thug who ran on to the pitch. Tempers spilled over after Chelsea had clinched a 2-1 win in this quarter-final replay to book a last-four clash against Blackburn.
Midfielder Lamps, 28, said: “I saw the guy coming and wanted to keep my eye on him because I thought if I turned my back I might get one on me. “I just ducked and then the stewards got to him. The way he ran at me I think he’d had a few drinks. I don’t think he should have been on the pitch in the first place.”

A home supporter escaped the security cordon and got close enough to have a swing at Lampard. Lamps added: “You understand the emotion in a match like this. “There is a lot of feeling but we celebrated in front of our own fans and for the whole game we had taken a lot of stick.
“If you can’t enjoy a victory in front of your own fans it’s a bad day. “People give us stick for a whole game and then complain when we celebrate. “That’s too much of a one-way street for me. That’s not fair. “When someone gets on the pitch there’s not a lot you can do.”

Martin Jol claimed Spurs were the better team and played down the fan trouble. The Tottenham manager said: “I am not responsible for security. “I can feel the fans’ frustration because we felt we could get something out of this match and we didn’t. “If you look at the game I don’t think you can say the best team won.”
