John Terry has urged his England team-mates to play as they do for their clubs.
England take on Israel in a crucial Euro 2008 qualifier on Saturday and Terry believes anything less than victory would be unacceptable.
After being held to a disappointing draw by Macedonia and losing to Croatia in October, Terry has told his players to raise their intensity and take more responsibility as individuals.
"We need to be more like we are at our clubs where we are with each other week-in, week-out and 'eff and blind' and sort things out," he explained in The Sun.
"We can do that at this level as well and we can shout at each other to sort things out.
"I would like to think that is one of the reasons why I have been made captain.
"It's down to us as a group of players on the pitch that if things aren't going well we can stand up and go 'okay, I'm going to take this by the scruff of the neck and do something on my own' - which is what we see players do for their clubs."
England are currently third in Group E and defeat would leave them with a mountain to climb to qualify for Euro 2008, and Terry insists the players must deliver.
"Not getting results in our last two games has been disappointing and the only way we can put that right is to bounce back with a win," he stressed.
"For an England team to be where we are is not acceptable and all the players feel the same way.
"Everyone knows their role, their job and their duties, so that's not an excuse either.
"There are no excuses at all."
