A-League outfit Sydney FC have ruled out a possible move for West Ham striker Teddy Sheringham, claiming he is too old.
The 40-year-old had been linked with a move to the A-League but Sydney chief executive George Perry has rubbished any rumours connecting the former Manchester United and Spurs front-man to the club.
A-League sides are allowed to sign one "marquee" player meaning that his personal terms can fall outside the salary cap which is imposed on sides in Australia's top flight.
Perry is looking to replace Sunderland striker Dwight Yorke, who left the club at the end of last season after helping Sydney win the inaugural A-League Championship.
And age was not the only thing working against Sheringham as Perry feels he would struggle to play in the hot conditions in Australia on a regular basis.
"We were also concerned about his ability to play on a regular basis in the Australian climate," Perry told one of the Australian newspaper.
"We've got another six players we're looking at from the Premier League and from Europe but we want the right person."
Sheringham, who has scored twice for The Hammers this season, will soon turn 41 and is the oldest scoring Premiership player.
