Portsmouth are aiming to convince Sol Campbell to sign a contract extension and are also stepping up plans to offer Kanu a new deal.
Campbell has impressed at Pompey since joining on a free transfer from Arsenal last summer and has another season on his present contract.
But Harry Redknapp feels there is no reason why the centre-half can not play Premiership football until at least 2009.
"Without any doubt, I would like to keep Sol Campbell here longer," the Pompey boss told The News. "He's been fantastic.
"He can keep playing in the Premier League for a few years yet.
"I'm sure Peter Storrie, our chief executive, will sit down and chat with Sol at some point. But not at the moment while we're getting on with the season."
Redknapp also plans to hang on to veteran goalkeeper David James and also offered an update on Kanu's contract situation.
The Nigerian is keen to secure a two-year deal at Fratton Park, but Redknapp outlined a contract for a further 12 months, with the incentive of another year.
He added: "We're looking at a year with Kanu and, after a certain number of games, I think it's 20 to 25, he gets another year.
"We want to keep Kanu and I'm sure Peter Storrie is making him a good offer.
"Like Kanu, I want to keep people like Sol Campbell and David James. Good players are hard to find. They're still top players."
