Xabi Alonso insists he knows 'nothing' of rumours concerning a summer move to Barcelona, with Rafa Benitez keen to arrange a new contract.
The Liverpool midfielder is reportedly a prime target for the Spanish champions and could be offered a return to his homeland at the end of the season.
Alonso has two years remaining on his Anfield contract and, while wanting to put talks about his future on the back-burner, admits he is happy at Liverpool.
"When I look at my whole career you never know what will happen," Alonso told the newspaper. "What happens in the future nobody knows.
"I can't say I know anything about rumours I will join Barcelona.
"We are still in the season and there is no way I will think about such things.
"For now, I am very happy at Liverpool."
Reds boss Benitez will meet with new owners Tom Hicks and George Gillett on Sunday, and acknowledges that Alonso's situation will be on the agenda.
Benitez said: "I know there is a need to talk to the new owners about Xabi so that we can analyse what the situation is.
"I will tell them that Xabi is a key player for us."
