CITY THAI TAKEOVER ON CARDS - REPORT
Former Thai Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra is reported to be considering a £92.2million buy-out of Manchester City. The former policeman made his fortune with Thailand's biggest communications group Shin Corp and was interested in purchasing a 30% stake in Liverpool in 2004.
The 57-year-old, who is reported to have a personal fortune of £560million, is believed to own a property near Kingston-upon-Thames.
Thaksin's legal counsel, Noppadon Pattama, refused to confirm or deny the report but told Thai newspaper The Nation: "As soon as [Thaksin] finishes his vacation, I will ask him about it and hold a news conference."

Former Blue makes bid for City
Manchester City have received a bid of £90million from a British consortium headed by former player Ray Ranson.
Speculation has been fervent of late with regards a takeover at Eastlands, with City chairman John Wardle having spoken to several parties, as he continues his search for significant investment in the club.
Former Thai Prime Minster Thaksin Shinawatra, who attempted but failed to buy a stake in Liverpool in 2004, has strongly been linked with making an offer but it would appear Ranson has laid down the early marker in lodging an opening bid.
Ranson tried to buy Aston Villa prior to Randy Lerner securing control at Villa Park and has while he has always been linked with making a move for City, it is only now that he has made his interest official.
The offer is believed to cover the club's shares, the repayment of loans in the region of £24million to major shareholders Wardle and David Makin and debt to other parties.
It has also been speculated that Ranson would be ready to hand manager Stuart Pearce a £20million transfer kitty were he to assume control.
An American consortium is also weighing up whether to launch a takeover of their own, according to reports. -

Given their low pay during their pay days, and yet they can come back with a 90M. I know they have many other supports. But it is still amazing. -
Ranson revises City offer
Ray Ranson has confirmed he has submitted a revised bid to buy Manchester City, as he attempts to ease the club's concerns over the offer.
The Eastlands outfit stated earlier this week that Ranson made two bids over a month ago, although they had concerns regarding the viability of the proposals.
City stated Ranson's original offer 'contained a number of material conditions that the board do not believe can be fulfilled'.
Ranson has now revised his offer and hopes to enter formal negotiations with the club's board with a view to moving his bid forward.
"Further to the announcement made by Ray Ranson on 24 April 2007 and to the announcement made by Manchester City plc on 25 April 2007, Ray Ranson can confirm that he has submitted a revised proposal to the board of the club with a view to making a possible offer for the club," read a statement.
"Ray believes that this revised proposal (which Ray has been ready to submit for a number of days subject to the completion of an initial review of certain due diligence information) addresses the club's stated concerns about conditionality.
"Ray would very much like to enter formal discussions with the board of the club to progress his proposal." -

Sam Allardyce's prospects of becoming Manchester City’s next manager have been thrown into doubt because a former Prime Minister of Thailand has emerged as the front-runner to take over the club. Thaksin Shinawatra, who failed in attempts to buy into Liverpool, is preparing to make a preliminary offer to the City board as early as this week in direct rivalry to the £90 million deal fronted by former player Ray Ranson. Allardyce, who has three years left on his contract at Bolton, is believed to have been told that the job is his if Ranson’s bid succeeds.
But it now appears he may have to convince Shinawatra that he is the man to lead a new regime. Allardyce did not attend the post-match Press conference following Bolton’s 2-2 draw at Chelsea yesterday. His assistant, Sammy Lee, said: ‘Sam’s not well. He didn’t travel with the team.’
Of reports that Allardyce had already quit Bolton, Lee said: ‘It is only speculation. We have a great bunch of players and the speculation won’t affect them. We’re desperate to make the UEFA Cup place. We just wanted that point today.’
ShinawatraÂ’s proposals are understood to trump the money on the table from Ranson and funds have already been lodged with an investment bank. If the City board look at ShinawatraÂ’s plans and believe he is a credible investor, they will allow him and his bank to conduct due diligence on the clubÂ’s books with a view to making a formal offer to shareholders.
While City manager Stuart Pearce will not be impressed by the intrigue behind the scenes, he has long been thought likely to leave the club this summer and become full-time coach of EnglandÂ’s Under-21 team. Pearce and the City board rowed about him combining his job at the club with the part-time role, and the FAÂ’s determination to make it a full-time post offers a convenient solution.
For City chairman John Wardle and his fellow directors, the bigger challenge has been to find an investor to transform the club, about £50m in debt, from relegationthreatened also-rans into contenders.
The Ranson proposal is not popular with most of the board. There are worries that his backers, Sisu Capital Private Equity Fund, would be more interested in a quick profit than CityÂ’s long-term development. -
CITY ALMOST THAI-ED UP
EX-THAI Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra has taken a step closer to gaining control at Manchester City after the club gave him permission to look at their books.
Although the billionaire has yet to make a formal bid, City have been sufficiently encouraged by his initial proposals - which include a substantial summer transfer fund. And sources close to Shinawatra say the takeover at the City of Manchester Stadium could even go through before the end of this month. -
