Tottenham midfielder Jermaine Jenas admits that a season that promised so much will likely end in disappointment at White Hart Lane.
While Spurs have impressed with a stylish brand of football, ultimately, they have once more fallen short in terms of pressing for major honours.
North London neighbours Arsenal ended their Carling Cup involvement at the semi-final stage, while Uefa Cup aspirations were curtailed by Sevilla in the quarter-finals.
Jenas has called on his team-mates to ensure European football is secured for next season courtesy of a top-seven finish, but even if this goal is achieved, the England international will not be entirely contented.
"This year we are in the Uefa Cup spot and it's down to ourselves, we've got a game in hand but we know it will go down to the last game," he told the website.
"I know we finished fifth last year and this year have got to the quarter-finals and semi-finals but the players feel it is not good enough."
Spurs team-mate Michael Dawson has echoed Jenas' desire for honours, claiming the Tottenham dressing room will not be sated until trophies are won.
"We feel we should be going further in these competitions and that's good because the players have got that hunger," he concluded.
"To go so close but not to really achieving something, to win something, that's what all the lads want to do. At the end of your career you want to look back at what you won."
really need to win someting there...
