Addicks deny takeover talk
Charlton Athletic have put paid to rumours a Middle East consortium are preparing a £50million takeover.
It had been thought the consortium, put together by a group of businessmen from the Middle East and Europe, were keen to takeover the relegated outfit.
However, Addicks chief executive Peter Varney has laughed off the suggestions and that members of the consortium were at The Valley on Monday.
"I didn't see many sheikhs at the game last night!" he told Sky Sports News. "As far as I'm concerned it is total nonsense.
"There's been no approach, I think I would know if there had been an approach for the club. There is no substance in the story whatsoever."
Despite Varney's comments, the club wanted to assure fans further and have 'vehemently denied' any talk of a potential takeover.
"Charlton Athletic have vehemently denied they are the subject of a takeover bid from a Middle Eastern business consortium," read a statement on the club's official site.
"Reports claimed that Middle East and continental businessmen were primed to invest in The Valley after the end of the season."
y the takeover only after they got relegated??
it might be good for charlton.
the original owner seems to have little interest in developing them.
