JOSE REYES is desperately trying to find a club in Spain to avoid a humiliating return to Arsenal. The Spanish international, 24, angered Gunners fans by vowing never to play for the club again after forcing a loan switch to Real Madrid. But boss Arsene Wenger is ready to recall the winger, having failed to convince Real to make the move permanent. Now Reyes is in a panic. He has also been rejected by Atletico Madrid, even though they were eager to sign him last summer. Atletico director Miguel Gil Marin said: “We’ve been offered Reyes but at this moment we don’t want him. The possibility of Reyes coming to Atletico doesn’t exist.” Reyes’ representatives have turned to his former club Seville in the hope they will take him back for £13.6million.
Marin added: “We’re tired of Atletico being used by agents to promote their players. It doesn’t make sense if they are in negotiations with Seville to use Atletico to try and get more money.” Wenger is ditching Julio Baptista, who was swapped for Reyes, as he refuses to meet Real’s £10m asking price. Baptista, 25, is anxious to have his future resolved and is waiting for a decision from the clubs this week.
The Brazilian said: “If I stay at Arsenal and Reyes stays at Madrid, then Real have to pay Arsenal £3m and the problem is over. “If Reyes doesn’t stay, it gets complicated. I’ve three more years on my contract with Real and they’ll be the ones who decide.”
