GETAFE SHOCK BARCA IN CUP
Getafe pulled off an astonishing comeback to thrash Spanish champions Barcelona and book a Copa del Rey final meeting with Sevilla. The Catalan giants had led 5-2 after the first leg and looked odds-on to progress to the Madrid final. But Getafe mounted an astonishing recovery to snatch the tie from the grasp of Barca. Goals from Javi Casquero and Daniel Guiza before the interval breathed new life into the tie and Getafe had not yet finished. Angel Vivar Dorado made it 3-0 after 70 minutes and then Guiza's second of the night three minutes later completed the rout. It was an astonishing performance by Getafe who - with Sevilla likely to qualify for the Champions League - can look forward to UEFA Cup football next season.
The opening goal came after, ironically, after a spell where Barcelona and Ronaldinho in particular had looked dominant. Alexis Ruano fed the ball to Casquero whose angled shot from outside the area nestled inside the right post. Guiza then netted his first of the night from close range after a goalmouth scramble.
Getafe continued to press after the break with Guiza heading wide from close range. Ludovic Giuly fired wide in a Barca raid but Guiza went close again. Ronaldinho curled a free-kick wide for Barca before Getafe drew level on aggregate. Cosmin Contra played in a dangerous ball from the right and Vivar Dorado headed it past Albert Jorquera from close range.
The clincher came three minutes later as substitute Manu del Moral played the ball into the right channel for Guiza who drilled a superb shot into the Barcelona goal. It sealed an epic comeback for Getafe but will do nothing for Barca who are coming under real pressure from arch-rivals Real Madrid in the race for the Primera Liga title.
