It is said that great teams are built upon a superb, sound defence.
But if you don't score goals, how can you win a match? (logically, even if it's down to penalties, you'll still need to score them right?)
I understand that constant success stems from a solid defence and superb attack.
BUT..
No one team can be consistently solid and excellent at both ends. Either side (defence or attack) would surely crumble at times. ie. injuries, suspensions, etc.So would you like your team to be based on a water-tight defence or a thrilling free-flowing attack?
I admit that Chelsea has a better defence than Man U, or at least they defend better. Man for man, they're very close.
Chelsea won the last 2 epl titles grinding out numerous 1-0 wins, even if they're playing badly.
Man U had won this year's title with their superb attacking display. Fergie's attacking policy is similar to Real Madrid's - if oppsing teams score 1, we score 2, they score 3, we score 5...
Jorge Valdano had criticised both Chelsea and Liverpool's boring ultra-defensive game.
Who would you support?
Have your say.
