Carvalho signs five-year contract

  Chelsea's Ricardo Carvalho has marked his 29th birthday by signing a new five-year contract at Stamford Bridge. Carvalho joined from Porto for £19.85m in 2004 but will miss the FA Cup final after damaging medial ligaments in his right knee against Bolton in April.
  
  "He has been a key player for us since he joined and is without doubt one of the world's best central defenders," said chief executive Peter Kenyon. "The only shame is that he will miss Saturday's game through injury."
