Ashley Cole will undergo ankle surgery on Monday, but is confident he will be fit to start pre-season training with his Chelsea team-mates.The England international's first season at Stamford Bridge did not go according to script, as his progress was hampered by a number of niggling injuries.
Cole climbed off the bench to feature in Chelsea's FA Cup final win over Manchester United, his first appearance in three weeks, but he is still being troubled by his ankle complaint and will go under the knife on Monday.
"I see the specialist on Monday and we'll just see how I go," he told The Sun. "It's not major surgery and, hopefully, I'll be okay for pre-season."
Cole is hopeful he will be able to show his true form next term.
"I've been nowhere near what I can be. But if I get over this injury, I'll come back better," he said.
"Wayne (Bridge) has been unbelievable. He's not just a great player but a good friend and proved in the final how good he is.
"I've a big fight on my hands next season. If I get good rehab, though, I'll be out to come back better and sharper."
