Claude Makelele's future at Chelsea is still uncertain, with the player's agent confirming interest in him from Villarreal.
Makelele is contracted to the Stamford Bridge club until next summer, but the 34-year-old is seeking assurances with regard to his long-term future.
The France international's agent, Mohamed Ladjemi, is due to meet Chelsea officials in the coming weeks in a bid to resolve his future.
Villarreal are admirers of the midfield anchor, but Ladjemi claims Makelele's preference would be to remain with Jose Mourinho's FA Cup winners.
Ladjemi told Spanish daily AS: "Makelele is signed to Chelsea until June 2008. I will travel to London for a meeting to find out their plans for his future.
"If the directors offer him an extension then it will be resolved but if not then there are other teams who are interested.
"Villarreal are interested but we cannot say too much at the moment."
