The Uruguay international has been long-linked with a move to Barcelona and the rumours intensified after a stunning second half of the season has seen Los Submarinos Amarillos start challenging for a UEFA Cup place and Forlan himself move onto 17 Liga goals for the campaign.
But the former Manchester United striker thinks that his release clause - 23 million euros - would prove prohibitive and declared that he is happy to stay at El Madrigal until the end of his contract.
"One the one hand, it's all very flattering, and on the other, we would have to see whether someone would be able to cough-up," Forlan told AS. "We'd need to talk about who can actually meet this clause, and we're talking about a lot of money."
Forlan was an instant hit for Manuel Pellegrini's men after an inconsistent time at Old Trafford, winning the Spanish golden boot and attracting glances from Europe's top sides. But despite a relatively low-key last two seasons, both of which have seen them start poorly but hit top gear late-on, Forlan insists that he is happy at the club.
"Furthermore, I am really happy here and I have no intention of leaving," he continued.
"If I go somewhere - and you know where I'm talking about - (happiness) is something that I would have to have there and in this sense I feel fine.
"I do not want to create a story about the rumours and would like to make it clear that the club has told me nothing - there is nothing."
Barcelona are expected to bid for a new forward this summer, with one of either Ronaldinho or Samuel Eto'o expected to leave the club.
Pitot
pity he couldnt survive in england.
red_amoeba
sigh, he is not mentioned in the same breath as eto, ronaldinho, raul, kanoute. i thot the relevation this season was kanoute?
seriously i think even he goes real madrid, he will be benched, how can he fight when his ex-teamate RVN is scoring like crazy, some more in the team got robinho, raul and the likes?
he is better of playing with villareal or try to make another comeback to England, start with a mid-level team that needs strikers -eg: newcastle
