Tottenham star Aaron Lennon has undergone surgery to repair the knee injury that forced his withdrawal from Steve McClaren's England squad. The silky winger picked up a small tear in his left knee during England's B international victory over Albania at Turf Moor.
Lennon was originally included in the senior squad despite the concern over his fitness, but quickly withdrew ahead of the friendly against Brazil on Friday and the Euro 2008 qualifier against Estonia five days later.
Now his club have confirmed that Lennon has gone under the knife in a bid to correct the problem.
Spurs have not released any details as to how long Lennon will be sidelined for.
His White Hart Lane colleague Michael Dawson was also forced to withdraw from McClaren's plans due to a groin problem.
