Reports in Spain claim that Real Betis are engaged in talks with Liverpool over the possible signing of Jerzy Dudek.
The Polish keeper will leave Anfield in the summer after seeing his international hopes fade as a result of his failure to dislodge Jose Reina in Rafa Benitez's plans.
Spain has now emerged as a realistic destination for the keeper as Marca reports that the Andalucian club have begun to talk with their English counterparts about a possible deal for the former Feyenoord man.
The two clubs have already been negotiating a transfer for out-of-favour Liverpool winger Mark Gonzalez, and Dudek could be joining his young team-mate on the plane to Spain if a double deal can be arranged.
Dudek's final game for Liverpool came in the 2-1 defeat to Portsmouth in April, and the Pole will always be fondly remembered on Merseyside after his penalty shoot-out heroics in the 2005 UEFA Champions League final heroics against Milan.
His impending departure will leave the path clear for Scott Carson to challenge Reina for the number one shirt at Liverpool, but the England Under 21 international has warned Benitez he is not ready to spend the season on the bench.
Carson impressed vividly for Charlton last season and, after being linked with promoted Birmingham, is determined to play regularly again next term.
"I've got to get another couple of years in the Premiership under my belt," said Carson in the Sunday Express.
