Bolton Wanderers and Benfica are thought to have enquired about Djibril Cisse's availability.
The Liverpool striker spent all of last season on loan at Marseille and is not expected to be part of Rafa Benitez's plans on his return to Anfield this summer.
L'OM are known to be keen to keep Cisse at the Stade Velodrome, and may battle Bolton if he is allowed to go out on loan again.
However, Benfica appear out of the running for the 25-year-old as the player's representative Ranko Stojic has ruled out a move to Portugal.
"Cisse does not desire to go to Benfica or Portugal," Stojic told Sportugal. "Cisse only wants to play for a club in England or one in Spain in the Champions League.
"We respect Benfica but at this moment the club does not enter into the plans of Cisse."
Bolton are understood to be interested in taking Cisse on loan, but Liverpool may prefer to offload the former Auxerre front man permanently.
Meanwhile, Benfica have agreed a four-year contract with Messina defender Marco Zoro, who has seen out his contract with the Italian club.
The Portuguese giants failed in a bid for Zoro in January but have now landed the stopper on a deal until 2011.
Benfica have also signed Bolivian Under 17 midfielder Carlos Sabja on loan from Tahuichi.
"Since I started playing football I had the dream of playing in Europe and now at the age of 17 I have the chance," Sabja said in Record.
"It's a loan deal but I hope to be able to show all what I can do and have the chance of a permanent transfer."
