Real Madrid president Ramon Calderon has claimed he has opened talks with Chelsea about a summer move for Dutch midfielder Arjen Robben.
The 23-year-old an was reportedly close to signing a new deal to keep him at Stamford Bridge until 2012 but it now seems as if a move to Spain is more likely.
"We are in discussions with Chelsea and the player, they are at an early stage but we hope to sign him," Calderon told reporters at the European Parliament in Brussels.
"Bringing Robben was one of my pledges when I was running for president and still remains the case."
In May, Robben said he hoped to remain with the FA Cup winners having refused an approach from German giants Bayern Munich.
Last season, a thigh strain and knee injury kept Robben on the sidelines for several weeks of the campaign.
