West Ham are believed to have joined the race for Preston striker David Nugent after missing out on Charlton hitman Darren Bent.
Nugent is currently in Holland with the England Under-21 side participating in the European Championship and has been unable to talk to clubs while the tournament is ongoing.
However, that has not stopped the long-time Everton target being strongly linked with a move to newly-promoted Sunderland.
But now the Hammers have emerged as contenders for the 22-year-old's signature after Bent turned down a move to Upton Park, according to the Lancashire Evening Post.
With England facing Holland in the semi-finals on Wednesday, interested parties will have to wait until Thursday at the earliest to hold talks with the hitman.
Nugent has been linked with a move to a host of Premiership clubs after scoring 17 goals for the Lilywhites last season.
He made his international debut in March, scoring in a 3-0 victory over Andorra.
