Spurs close to £12m Bent deal

DARREN BENT edged closer to joining Spurs last night. Charlton’s England striker, who turned down West Ham, is set to move to White Hart Lane for £12million with central defender Anthony Gardner moving in the other direction.
Bent, 23, refused a £3.75m-a-year offer at Upton Park and is now set to accept a deal worth around £1.25m less with Martin Jol’s men because he wants to push his claims for an England spot. But Bent’s arrival will cast further doubt over Jermain Defoe’s future.
Defoe, 24, has attracted interest from Manchester United and Chelsea and could now move on. Egyptian striker Mido will almost certainly leave this summer but Defoe will not want to play second fiddle to Dimitar Berbatov, Robbie Keane and Bent. -

There is no good striker in the ranks who can offer aerial capabilities and ball holding/shielding WHILE being fast on the pace. (Pls, Ronaldo is on better in the flanks.)
Chelsee Drogba and Shevchenko
Ok, they can definately be the BEST strike force among the whole known football league IF they get their acts together. However I somehow get a tingling (spider) sense that Mourinho may empoy a 1 striker system for much of the next season.
Liver Crouch and
Sorry to all Liverpool fans who do not like Crouch. I like him. He gives a kind of play many defences fear and rightly so. Height, skill and disguise of being clumsy. Crouch is my prefered 1st choice. Much will depend on the other striker.
Asnl Henry? and
We do not know if Henry will leave. If he does then, Arsenal can more or less say GG to the next season if no high profile players are brought in. Aliadiare is sold and Adebayor is still not good enough to hold on his own. Van Persie is too injury prone and Walcott is still young. Time is needed for them. -

Anyone can update on the Spurs players? Who are they? I do not know all except Robinson, Chimbonda, Dawson, King, Lee, Lennon, Zokora, Berbatov, Keane and Defoe.

Bent signing could see Defoe go
The Addicks ace is believed to favour a switch to White Hart Lane ahead of Liverpool, but his arrival would leave Spurs with four top strikers pushing for just two places and Defoe would almost certainly need to leave to bolster his England prospects.
The Sun claims that Portsmouth, Aston Villa, Everton and West Ham are all monitoring the 24-year-old's situation but could be put off by a price tag in excess of £10million.
Defoe joined Spurs for £7million from the Hammers in February 2004 and has gone on to net more than 50 goals for the club, despite never holding down a regular first-team place.
Dimitar Berbatov and Robbie Keane are certain to start the new campaign leading the line for Matin Jol's men, but it remains to be seen whether Defoe will be prepared to be a bit-part player again even if a move for Bent collapses.
