Henry: Why I Quit Arsenal
Thierry Henry has revealed that he quit Arsenal to join Barcelona because he could not face life at the Emirates Stadium without David Dein and Arsene Wenger.
A £16 million fee for Henry has been agreed with Barcelona, and the Frenchman will have a medical with the club on Monday.
In an open letter to fans published in The Sun, he said: "Arsene has been part of my life for as long as I can remember.
"Unfortunately and understandably he has said that at this moment he will not commit to the club past the expiration of his current deal which finishes at the end of the coming season.
"I respect his decision and his honesty but I will be 31 at the end of next season and I cannot take the chance to be there without Arsene Wenger and David Dein.
"This is solely my decision, no-one has forced me to do anything and I will represent myself in this transaction. I feel it is something I just had to do."
Henry, who has agreed a four-year deal, added: "Barcelona are a wonderful club steeped in tradition and play beautiful football. I'm sure I will be very happy there.
"But I will miss the Arsenal fans dearly, they have supported me through thick and thin.
"They will always be in my heart, as will all the fans who make the game here so special. I will always have a special bond with Arsenal Football Club. -
Arsenal Confirm Henry Sale
Arsenal have confirmed they have reached an agreement with Barcelona for the transfer of Thierry Henry, subject to a medical and the completion of formalities.
And now a statement on the Gunners' official website reads: "Arsenal Football Club can confirm that it has reached an agreement with Barcelona for the transfer of Thierry Henry.
"The deal is subject to a medical and the completion of formalities."
It is believed the medical will take place on Monday after which he will be unveiled to his new adoring fans. -
Barca chief justifies Henry fee
Barcelona vice-president Ferran Soriano admits recent big-money transfers in Europe dictated how much it would cost them to bring Arsenal striker Thierry Henry to the Nou Camp.
Henry is set to put the finishes touches on his move to Barca in the next few days, with the deal reportedly worth 24million euros (£16million). The France international turns 30 in August but Soriano believes they are paying the going rate for the Gunners superstar.
"There is a certain inflation in the transfer fees with respect to last year," Soriano told Catalan radio station RAC1. "We can check it (the Henry deal) with the signing of Ribery for Bayern (believed to be around 25million euros) (£17million) and those of Nani and Anderson, who are 18, for Manchester United (believed to be around 50million euros) (£34million)."
He added: "There are players who last year cost 10 million (£6.7million) and now they cost 15 (£10.1million). " -
Henry urged to be Frank over exit
Arsenal legend Frank McLintock has accused Barcelona-bound striker Thierry Henry of making excuses over his impending departure.
Henry is on the verge of a £16million move to Barca, with the Gunners confirming only a medical and other formalities had yet to be completed.
Arsenal's talismanic captain, who only signed a new four-year contract last summer, has cited the acrimonious exit of vice-chairman David Dein and the refusal of manager Arsene Wenger to commit his own future beyond the end of the forthcoming season as his reasons for leaving.
But former defender McLintock, who skippered the club to their first league and FA Cup double in 1971, was having none of it.
He said: "I think it's a reason, like most players make a reason up.
"I would rather he just said: 'I've had great years at Arsenal, I've loved it there, I think it's now time to move on'.
"I would rather hear a player saying that.
"I'd prefer a little bit more honesty. He should say: 'I think it's time for me to move on. I think I can maybe win more honours at Barcelona, because of Arsenal's financial set-up at the moment'.
McLintock is particularly sceptical about Henry's relationship with Dein.
"I can't see the relevance of David Dein's departure," he said.
"I don't know how a player can get caught up with a director's departure and that making a difference to a player's performance.
"I'm sure David Dein did a marvellous job but I think his marvellous work would have been done with Arsene Wenger.
"That would usually be in the office, talking and working out financial settlements.
"I'm sure he was a great ally to Arsene Wenger - but I don't see how a player comes into contact with a director day after day.
"I've never heard such talk in my life before.
"I never remember seeing any director apart from the then chairman, Denis Hill-Wood, who used to come in before the game and wish us all the best.
"That was the only time we ever saw any directors.
"I'm not trying to knock what David Dein's done, because he has done a smashing job, but I don't see where the relevance is between a player who plays for the football club and what is contact is with him [Dein].
"It's not as though he's in his pocket every day and he's all of a sudden missing him badly."
McLintock accepts Henry, who scored a record 226 goals in 364 games for the club, has more of case regarding his concerns about Wenger's future.
But he added: "It might be a genuine reason, I don't really know.
"It could be just another excuse for moving on. Most players seem to say something to prevent the fans turning on them, so they can leave with a warm feeling."
Despite his reservations, McLintock hailed Henry as Arsenal's greatest player ever.
"He didn't play well last year and even part of the year before," he said.
"But he's probably been the finest player Arsenal have ever had so you can't dismiss five or six great seasons that he gave us.
"You've got to hand that to him.
"I think the fans should leave with a warm feeling for Thierry Henry. He deserves it - he's been magnificent." -
Henry leaving Arsenal... Arsenal onli have themselves to blame... With the departure of so many good players like Vieira, Pires, Bergkamp(Retired) and etc. Who did they bring in? Youngsters? R they expecting a bunch of youngsters with no EPL experience to win the Premier League?
Next season, I will see the top 4 Clubs to be changed. Arsenal will not be in it and Spurs will be 1 of the top 4. -
Wise choice Henry.
No offense, but you're not gonna win anything when you're overspending on youngsters than on first team players. Arsenal lacked experience and there's no true leader to lead them after Vieira's departure.
Henry's departure would be Barca's gain because right now their attack looks the most dangerous in Europe with Flair and Pace. I wouldn't like to see United playing Barca in Champions League next season.

Arsene Wenger's future has been thrown into fresh doubt after Thierry Henry claimed the Arsenal manager's refusal to sign a new contract was the main reason he is joining Barcelona.

Ironically, Wenger may feel the same about the departure of Henry, who he converted from a struggling winger into one of the most feared forwards in the world after bringing him to the club eight years ago.
The studious Frenchman has earned a reputation as one of the most astute talent-spotters in the game, creating a conveyor belt of outstanding young players which has in turn allowed him to replace many of the Arsenal's big names.
But it is no secret he saw Henry's vast experience as vital to helping nuture much of that talent.
Lacking the financial muscle of Chelsea, Manchester United and Liverpool, Wenger would have also been able to use his captain to attract players to Emirates Stadium.
Many of the Gunners' transfer targets may be dissuaded from joining if they believe both Henry and Wenger will not be at the club from next summer.

THIERRY Henry is leaving Arsenal. But they are not the same club that made him into a world star. Have faith Gunners:
Stan Kroenke has offered to underwrite a multimillion-pound transfer budget for Arsenal but the club's directors are determined to go it alone.
Arsenal's capacity to compete in the transfer market has frequently been called into question and uncertainty surrounds the position of the manager, Arsène Wenger, beyond the expiry of his contract in 12 months.
With that in mind, Kroenke has suggested ploughing fresh funds into the club.
"It seems that the anxiety about Stan Kroenke and his intentions has been well documented," said a source close to the American billionaire. "But he'd like to support Arsenal."
If Hill-Wood and Kroenke were able to repair the damage, Wenger may be persuaded to extend his contract. Conversely, if Kroenke managed to buy out Arsenal in the next 12 months and have Dein reinstated, Wenger would almost certainly stay.
How Wenger replaces Henry will also have a great bearing on his final decision. It is, though, the impossible task.
Even at 29 and injury prone, Henry is blessed with skills that are possessed by only a few. That Samuel Eto’o – one of those few – will remain at Barcelona and play alongside Henry limits the field farther.
When Patrick Vieira left two years ago, Cesc FÃ bregas emerged from the Arsenal brat pack to plug the gap. However, when Henry goes, there appears to be no one to fill his shoes. Another campaign of frustration and touchline ranting looms for Wenger. -

Who Arsenal gets next will be important.
Its different from RVN leaving Man Utd. In RVN case its Man Utd not wanting him and not the other way round. Even then, they had Rooney and Ronaldo waiting in the wings. Also, they had the experience of Giggs, Scholes and Neville to back them up.
Now that Henry leaves, there is no longer any real experience up front. Hopefully RVP can fill up the space. Although I Man Utd fan, but I like and respect the way Arsenal play. They can really claim to be playing beautiful football. Sometimes better than Man Utd even. -
Eto'o ends exit talk
Samuel Eto'o has ended speculation about his future after claiming he has been reassured of his place at Barcelona next season by president Joan Laporta.
Eto'o will be joined at the Camp Nou by Arsenal's Thierry Henry next season and the Cameroon international is looking forward to the prospect of helping the Catalan giants regain their La Liga title.
The former Real Mallorca striker had been tipped to leave Barca for either AC Milan, Manchester United or Liverpool this summer.
"The talk about Milan has finished," revealed Eto'o.
"Laporta and the board have said that I am staying and I have always said to them that I never thought about leaving.
"I am excited about the plans for next season. The fact that the club have made it clear that they want me is great too.

Messi Delighted With Henry Deal
Barcelona playmaker Lionel Messi says he is pleased to welcome Thierry Henry to the Nou Camp.
The Arsenal striker is moving to Spain in a £16 million deal after agreeing a four-year contract.
"Henry is huge, for that reason he comes to Barca," Messi told El Mundo Deportivo.
"A footballer of his quality, with what he has won and almost 30 years old, does not take the risk of going to a team that is not at its peak.
"Titi has demonstrated over the years that he is a great player. Cesc (Fabregas) always says that Titi is fantastic in training and is even better off the pitch as a friend and a leader."
