Spanish daily AS are reporting that Diego Forlan is the favourite to replace Fernando Torres at the Vicente Calderon.
Armed with what is likely to be a figure in excess of 30 million euros should they sell skipper Fernando Torres, the Madrid club will move for Diego Forlan.
An initial contact has already been made, and Atleti will be ready to meet the 23 million buy-out clause in the Uruguayan's contract. However, it is expected that the Yellow Submarines will deal at a figure of around 18-20 million.
Javier Aguirre has already formulated his plans for next season, and wants to play Aguero behind a number 9. He has Mista in his ranks, but the former Valencia man has failed to convince over the season.
Forlan almost moved to Atleti three years ago, but Villarreal sealed an agreement with Manchester United. There will be competition for Atleti once again, with Valencia watching very closely.
Barcelona's interest will have dropped following the capture of Thierry Henry, while Liverpool will also go cold if they sign Torres.
