River Plate midfielder Oscar Ahumada is on the cusp of moving to Italian side Atalanta, according to the Argentine club's president.
Jose Maria Aguilar claims Atalanta have concurred with his valuation of the player and, are ready to shell out €2million to secure his services.
Although loath to lose a player of considerable influence, Aguilar has been quick to sanction Ahumada's departure with his blessing.
"There are still some documents to be signed but I can say that Ahumada has been transferred to Atalanta because they have accepted to pay the $2million (£1million) that River wants for the player," said Aguilar.
"We are very proud of Ahumada because he has been formed at River and our current coach considered him one of the most important players of the team, but we can't halt his career.
"Besides that, he has already played in Europe - when at Wolfsburg - the player said to us that he was interested in the chance of playing in Italy so we spoke with (coach Daniel) Passarella about his situation and we decided to let him go.
"I am sure that Ahumada is going to have success in his new team and on the other hand, we are calm, because for replacing him in that position we have players like Leonardo Ponzio, Rene Lima and Nicolas Domingo."
