Portsmouth have signed Martin Cranie from Southampton on a three-year deal.
Cranie recently rejected the offer of a new deal at St Mary's and news of his availability alerted a number of clubs, among them League One side Yeovil.
But the 20-year-old defender has decided to move along the South Coast to Portsmouth, and become Harry Redknapp's fourth signing of the summer.
Cranie is now looking to develop as a player and take his chance to impress in the Premier League.
"This is a great opportunity for me to progress," he told the club's official website.
"I'm very much looking forward to playing for Harry again and working alongside some of the best defenders the Premier League has ever seen.
"Portsmouth are a very ambitious club both on and off the field and I want to be part of their future success."
Redknapp, who has already brought in Sulley Muntari, Sylvain Distin and Hermann Hreidarsson, has high hopes for Cranie.
He said: "Martin is a very promising young player who has the ability to go right to the very top of the game.
"I remember when I played him at Man City when I was at Southampton and he did a great job that afternoon on Shaun Wright-Phillips.
"He has bags of talent and is a great addition to the squad."
