DAVID BECKHAM is being urged to cut short his holiday and rescue LA Galaxy.
The England midfielder is due to begin his MLS career in Los Angeles at the end of next month.
But Beckham — who helped Real Madrid to the La Liga title 10 days ago — will get an SOS call this week.
Galaxy lost to Columbus Crew last weekend to leave them second-bottom of their division with just two victories all season.
Former Middlesbrough defender Abel Xavier is already in LA.
He said: “We really need Beckham’s help to get us up the table in the MLS. I am convinced his arrival will help us progress a great deal.”
Xavier admits Beckham will face a big task pulling the team together and improving their spirit both on and off the pitch.
He added: “The players need to communicate more and be more responsible during the game.
“We are conceding goals from lack of concentration.
“Things will get better when we get Beckham and all our injured players and those on international duty with America are back.” -

The name of America's premier football division is slightly misleading. It might be major in the States, but everywhere else the competition is cruelly treated by prejudice. Americans simply can't do football is the popular refrain, and Beckham's imminent arrival at LA Galaxy - his new contract begins on 1 July - has meant the spotlight is again trained on a league split into two less-than-enthralling divisions of west and east. The play-off system means the format becomes an all-in affair for the top sides, but it's hardly the Champions League.

Beckham will be relieved that US domestic soccer doesn't have a system of relegation - otherwise his first season in Major League Soccer might be a fight to avoid the drop.

David Beckham has proved he is adapting to life across the Atlantic after trying his hand at the nation's favourite sport - American football.
The former England captain paired up with New Orleans Saints running back Reggie Bush, American football's hottest property, to film a series of new video clips for adidas in Spain.
Beckham was taught to throw an American football, kick a field goal and then go for the world record, a 64-yard field goal, all under the watchful eye of Bush.
In return, Beckham let the 22-year-old into the secret of mastering free-kicks, penalties and kick-ups.
Reminiscent of the footage that saw Beckham team up with Jonny Wilkinson, the scenes were unscripted with the pair simply given a bag of balls and told to enjoy themselves.
The result is an up-close and personal demonstration of the mutual admiration two of the world's biggest sporting icons have for each other.
The "Futbol Meets Futbol" videos will be shown for 13 weeks during the NFL summer season.
