FRANK LAMPARD has turned down a new Chelsea contract that would have made him the highest-paid player in the club's history.
The offer would have seen him overtake superstar striker Andriy Shevchenko and Germany captain Michael Ballack's £121,000-a-week deals to become top earner at Stamford Bridge.
But Chelsea were stunned when Lampard rejected the offer to leave their year-long contract negotiations in chaos just 41 days before the new season kicks off.
And that will only further fuel speculation that Lampard will soon be on his way out of the West London club. New Juventus boss Claudio Ranieri, who took Lampard to Stamford Bridge for a record £11m when he was Blues boss in 2001, is desperate to sign him.
Ranieri spent time chatting to Lamps when England played Brazil at the new Wembley last month.
Spanish giants Barcelona will also go on red alert now that Lampard has turned down the Blues.
Lampard insists he wants to stay at Chelsea for life but senior executives at the Bridge now fear their star midfielder is pricing himself out of that dream with his huge wage demands.
He returns for pre-season training this week after a holiday in Spain.
But there are growing doubts now whether Lampard will still be in the blue of Chelsea come the big kick-off next month. -

Frank Lampard 'knows he has no chance of moving' to any of the big European clubs and so will almost definitely stay at Chelsea, according to an executive at Barcelona. 'There is no other option. He has been offered to us, Milan, Inter and Real Madrid. Basically all of the big clubs. But none are interested. We are the same as those clubs are, we're looking for a player who is more creative and has a greater technique than Lampard. So it looks like he will go nowhere.'
The England midfielder has been trying to negotiate a new contract for the past year, with the stumbling block believed to be his contract demands. He wants parity with Andriy Shevchenko and Michael Ballack, the top earners at Chelsea, who are thought to earn £130,000 a week. The 29-year-old has been offered £110,000, around £20,000 more than his current deal, which has two years remaining.
John Terry's attempts to agree a new, improved contract have also stalled although, according to a Stamford Bridge executive, 'he is not offering himself to the market like Frank. So we think this means he will stay'. -

if he doesnt score, he is useless on the field.
if chelsea need goals they should look for a striker. in order for the striker to score, they need a creative midfielder who can assist.

You picked out his most obvious merits, scoring, he can score and that's a big factor. That's need timing, and guts.
Secondly, he is good at releasing the ball at the right moment. For that, I believe SG, Scholes, Fabregas and Lampard are the top.
When Chelsea was playing the wings with Robben and Duff, Lampard just have to play the ball to them, come roaming in the middle, and just power the ball in.
I am just amazed how Chelsea is willing to let one of their pillars go.
And letting this just roll on and on.
If this is not one of their smokescreen, just imagine the impact on their other players, cause they will know that they won't get pay increase, and they may be treated worse cause they are not the core players. -
I think its time for lampard to save face and say he didn't turn down any record offer from Chelsea now that Kenyon and Roman has made it very clear that they won't be giving in to his demand...
He should just accept what is being offer to him right now... and not ask for the same as Ballack and Shev. -

Frank wants to stay: agent denies Lampard has rejected record pay deal
Frank Lampard's agent has denied the player has turned down a record offer from Chelsea and insists he wants to stay at the club.
It has been suggested the England midfielder had rejected a deal that would have netted him £131,000 a week, making him the club's highest-paid player.
But the 28-year-old's representatives have insisted that no talks have taken place with Chelsea.
Agent Steve Kutner said today that neither Lampard, chief executive Peter Kenyon nor himself have been free to set up a meeting since the end of last season.
Lampard, who has been linked with moves to Barcelona and Juventus, will now join up with his team-mates in America next Monday but Kutner won't be going with him.
Kutner, however, is adamant there is no cause for alarm and said: "The three of us haven't had a chance to have talks.
"There has never been a time when the three of us have been free as Frank has been on holiday and Peter has been away. But nothing has changed. Frank has always said he wants to stay at Chelsea for the rest of his career.
"He will join up with Chelsea's tour next week and will be as committed as ever. Nothing can get sorted out until he gets back, but there is no rush."
It will probably have to wait until next month as Chelsea face friendlies at Feyenoord, Rangers and Brondby when they return from Los Angeles.
The club are also still trying to get Arjen Robben to commit to a new deal in the wake of interest from Real Madrid, and Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho has denied he was told he could not spend any money to find a replacement.
The Stamford Bridge club have targeted Lyon winger Florent Malouda should the Dutchman secure a switch to Spain, although they will have to increase their initial bid of £12million to £17m.
So far the Blues have signed Steven Sidwell, Claudio Pizarro and Tal Ben Haim on free transfers, which is in stark contrast to the big spending the club have done over the previous three years.
"Nobody from the board said Jose you have to only bring in players on a Bosman because we have no money to spend," Mourinho told Chelsea TV.
"I think it's bad business if you only bring in players under the Bosman law and they are not good enough.
"If the only reason you are bringing them is because they are free, they become expensive. The point is to bring in good players." -

Lampard and Terry will have to accept what has been offered to them since before the end of last season and get on with it. I think its no big secret that the offer is already on the table, the $110,000 per week deal has been there for a long time. Getting his agent to hold a learn Spanish book isn't going to help. Kenyon is too sly for such tricks. I doubt Kenyon is going to change his mind now... Asking pay parity with Michael Ballack and Andriy Shevchenko, who earn about £130,000 a week is just stupid. Chelsea is still a long way from breaking even per season and giving in to his demands will only make things worse as giving in to him then Terry will also want, and giving in to Terry, Robben will also want, Then giving in to Robben Joe Cole will be the next one... Then where does it ends, with Peter Cech?

Barcelona to bid £12m for Lamps
BARCELONA will bid £12million for Chelsea’s Frank Lampard today. SunSport can reveal the Spanish giants plan to make formal contact for the first time about signing Lamps.
Blues officials will reply by insisting the England star is not for sale at any price.
Barce trying their luck to get Lampard on the cheap...
